After Doubao answers, does this happen?
Translation, summary and copy, all out in seconds with Doubao. And yet, here's what happens next.
The Chinese notes got translated. The action items got buried in the translation, and the reply runs late.
Dozens of promo ideas came out. The chosen one is scattered across chats and files.
Rewriting what was decided locally from scratch for headquarters. Every week, the same job.
Getting the answer takes seconds with Doubao. Whether the work moves is decided after the answer.
What you really wanted after Doubao answers
Same meeting. Same Doubao. The moment the answer came out, this is how it should have looked.
Doubao still translates and summarizes. Decisions, owners and dates are already lined up.
SIMY flags anything waiting on a reply or near its deadline before the next sync.
The chosen option and next steps live in one place, across tools and chats.
"Start the campaign a week early?" That one question is all that comes back.
This starts from your next meeting after you connect your meetings and chat to SIMY. Keep using Doubao for what it does best.

What is Doubao (豆包)? The app, Seed models, API and safety (in depth)
Open these when you want details on Doubao itself. Model names and specs are as of October 2026.
What is Doubao? Pronunciation and where it's fromByteDance's AI. Models by Seed, delivered via Volcano Engine
Pronunciation and meaning
豆包 is pronounced dòubāo in Chinese (roughly "doe-bao") and written Doubao in English. The word originally means a steamed bun (baozi) filled with sweet bean paste. It's the name of an AI assistant and also of the large language model (LLM) series behind it.
Where it's from
Doubao is the AI of ByteDance, headquartered in Beijing, China. ByteDance is best known as TikTok's parent company. Internally, the roles are split like this:
- Seed: ByteDance's research team, which builds Doubao's models (the Doubao-Seed series).
- Volcano Engine (火山引擎): the cloud business for China, offering Doubao models through its enterprise API, Ark (火山方舟).
- BytePlus: the international cloud business, offering a model API called ModelArk.
Three entry points
- The Doubao app: a free AI assistant for China, used for chat, search, writing and more.
- API: built into your own systems via Volcano Engine (China) or BytePlus (international).
- Published models: run some models released by the Seed team on your own servers. The flagship Doubao-Seed series isn't among them.
Even under the same "Doubao" name, each entry point has a different operating company, contract and data handling. Read "Deciding on use at work" below as well.
The Doubao app, and using it outside ChinaA service for China. Availability elsewhere not officially confirmed
The Doubao app is an AI assistant offered for users in China. There's a website (doubao.com) and a mobile app, widely used for free in China. The interface and guidance are mainly in Chinese.
- Availability outside China: as of October 2026, we couldn't find official information showing it's offered in other markets such as Japan.
- The international app: international users are reportedly offered an assistant app under a different name. Check its terms of service for supported regions and the operating company.
- Before using it for work: check in the terms of service and privacy policy which company you'd be contracting with and where your input is stored.
What Doubao can do
- Chat: answering questions, writing, translating and summarizing. A typical use is pasting a Chinese document and asking for "the key points in three lines".
- Writing: many options for Chinese text such as promo copy, social posts and email drafts.
- Reading files and images: attach a document or image and ask it to explain or summarize.
Working with Chinese market and partner information in Chinese, as is, is a big reason people outside China are interested in Doubao. Official guidance and help, on the other hand, are mostly in Chinese.
Tips for using it at work
- Check Chinese material against the original: for amounts, dates, part numbers and names, compare with the original rather than reading only the translation.
- State the role and format up front: starting with who it's for and what it is, like "a polite reply to the local team, in three paragraphs", cuts down on rework.
- Enter only what can be public: think once before entering customer names or unpublished figures.
Turning those answers into who does what by when, and chasing it, happens outside the app. If you're doing that yourself every time, see how SIMY connects.
Seed models: the Doubao-Seed series and published modelsFlagship weights aren't published. Seed-OSS-36B is Apache 2.0
Scroll the table sideways →
| Model | Role | Weights published? |
|---|---|---|
| Doubao-Seed-2.1-Pro | Top model announced at a Volcano Engine event on June 23, 2026 (per press reports) | Not published |
| Doubao-Seed-2.1 fast version | Reportedly a cheaper version than Pro, under the "Turbo" name | Not published |
| Doubao-Seed-Code | A model for coding (reportedly offered in China) | Not published |
| Seed-OSS-36B | A 36B model released in August 2025 | Published (Apache 2.0) |
| Seed-Coder-8B | A small model for code generation | Published |
| UI-TARS | A model for agents that look at the screen and operate a computer | Published |
How this differs from open weights: DeepSeek, Qwen and GLM publish weights close to their flagships, but Doubao's flagship weights aren't published. To run something yourself, get Seed-OSS-36B or similar from Hugging Face and run it with vLLM or a similar tool. As of October 2026, Ollama's official library has no Seed models.
Running Seed-OSS-36B on your own server
Seed-OSS-36B is published under Apache 2.0, a license that makes commercial use straightforward. At 36B it assumes a server or workstation with a high-memory GPU rather than an ordinary laptop. It doesn't match the flagship Doubao-Seed series, so decide on the use first, such as "try it without sending data out" or "summarize Chinese documents in-house", to avoid disappointment.
The model names in the table are as of October 2026 and include flagship names confirmed through press reports rather than official announcements. Names and generations change every few months, so check the model lists on Volcano Engine or BytePlus for the latest.
The Doubao API: Volcano Engine Ark and BytePlus ModelArkSeparate providers for China and international
- China: Volcano Engine's Ark (火山方舟) offers the Doubao-Seed series. Prices are in Chinese yuan.
- International: BytePlus ModelArk offers models to businesses outside China.
- Pricing: pay-as-you-go based on input and output tokens. Rates differ by model and provider, so check the official BytePlus ModelArk or Volcano Engine Ark pages.
What to check before you start with the API
- Decide which provider to use. If your company is outside China, BytePlus is the likely option. Confirm the contracting entity and governing law.
- Check which models are available. Models and launch dates can differ between China and international.
- Check data handling. Confirm where input is stored, for how long, and whether it's used for training, in the contract and official documents.
- Start small and watch usage. Check usage and cost in the console before scaling to production volume.
How SIMY relates: SIMY doesn't connect to the Doubao API at this time. SIMY's cloud runs use your ChatGPT (Codex) account.
Doubao-Seed-Code and TRAE: for codingA coding model and ByteDance's AI-powered editor
ByteDance also has products for coding.
- Doubao-Seed-Code: a Doubao-Seed model for generating and fixing code. Volcano Engine reportedly offers a flat-rate coding plan for it in China.
- TRAE: an AI-powered code editor from ByteDance. You can instruct the AI inside the editor to write or fix code.
- Published models: there are also small code models with published weights, such as Seed-Coder-8B.
As of October 2026, we couldn't find official information on calling Doubao models from other coding tools such as Claude Code. If you want to, check each provider's official docs for how to connect.
After the code is written, SIMY picks up the fixes and owners decided in review meetings and lists them.
Languages: how well does Doubao work outside Chinese? You can ask in other languages, but no official statement of support was found
You can talk to Doubao in languages other than Chinese. But as of October 2026, we couldn't find official documentation stating support for them (we checked for Japanese). The service is built around Chinese, so test quality in your language yourself.
- Good fit: summarizing Chinese documents, first-draft translation between Chinese and your language, and writing copy for the Chinese market.
- Worth checking: tone and formality, local names and terms, and anything about local laws or business customs. Always reread text that goes outside the company.
When working with partners or local teams in China, you can split it: Doubao translates the summary, and SIMY handles the owners and deadlines for what was decided and drafts the reply. The one-meeting comparison above is an example.
Data handling and official findingsTaiwan's National Security Bureau published test results in November 2025
Where data is stored
As of October 2026, we couldn't confirm from official documents which country stores data entered into the Doubao app or API. Each entry point has a different operating company, so check the terms of service and privacy policy of the one you use.
Official findings
- Taiwan: in November 2025, Taiwan's National Security Bureau published results of testing five Chinese generative AI apps (DeepSeek, Doubao, Wenxin Yiyan, Tongyi Qianwen and Tencent Yuanbao) on 15 indicators, including personal data collection and permission handling. Doubao was found to have problems on 10 of the 15 (reported by Focus Taiwan and Taiwan News).
- Japan: on February 6, 2025, the executive committee of the Digital Society Promotion Council, run by Japan's Digital Agency, issued a notice to government agencies on business use of generative AI such as DeepSeek. It doesn't ban any specific service outright; it asks agencies to assess the risks before use.
These are findings and advisories from specific governments and agencies, not in themselves a ban on companies using Doubao. How to handle it is a call to make under your company's rules and your clients' requirements.
How SIMY handles data is published on our Security page and in our Privacy Policy.
Deciding on use at work: what to check for each entry pointDecide by which entry point, and for what kind of information
Scroll the table sideways →
| Entry point | Main use | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| The Doubao app | Research in Chinese, summarizing public information | Availability in your country, operating company, where data is stored |
| BytePlus ModelArk | Using the API as a company outside China | Contracting entity and governing law, where data is stored, use for training |
| Volcano Engine Ark | Use at a China office or subsidiary | Chinese law and the contract, data transfers to and from headquarters |
| Published models like Seed-OSS | Running on your own servers | License, GPUs needed, operating effort |
Rules of thumb
- Check your company's rules first: some companies' generative AI policies limit which services you can use and what you can enter.
- Split by what you enter: translating or summarizing public information and handling customer data or unpublished figures naturally call for different entry points.
- Check your clients' requirements: clients in government, healthcare, pharma or defense may set conditions on using foreign AI services.
- Keep data in with your own environment: if data must not leave the company, running a published model on your own servers is the sure way.
If you're unsure, start small with a defined scope such as "only for translating or summarizing public information", and agree in writing with IT and legal on three things: the entry point, the use and what may be entered. That makes it easier to explain later.
How Doubao compares with DeepSeek, Qwen and GLMNot better or worse, just different openness and entry points
Scroll the table sideways →
| Compared | Doubao | DeepSeek | Qwen | GLM (Z.ai) | SIMY |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Developer | ByteDance (Beijing) | DeepSeek (Hangzhou) | Alibaba Group (Hangzhou) | Zhipu AI (Beijing) | AwakApp Inc. |
| Flagship weights | Not published (only some older models) | Published (MIT) | Mostly published | Published (own license; Flash is MIT) | — |
| International entry point | BytePlus | Official API | Alibaba Cloud | Z.ai (Singapore company) | — |
| Starting point | You ask | You ask | You ask | You ask | SIMY picks it up from meetings and chat |
How they fit together: any AI, Doubao included, can produce the answers and drafts. If you're chasing the owners, deadlines, replies and updates yourself every time after that, that's where SIMY comes in. See Chinese LLMs compared for an overview, or the DeepSeek, Qwen, GLM (Z.ai), Kimi and MiniMax guides.
